In addition to being a mother of three - Jackie Jr., Sharon and David - an active baseball wife, and a professional woman with a distinguished career as a psychiatric nurse. Now, 60 years after Robinson's historic debut, Rachel Robinson remains the keeper of the flame. She is a medium of sorts, constantly summoning up her husband's spirit for new generations of Americans to behold. Her "overriding goal" for the 35 years she has lived without him has been to honor that legacy, to preach, practice and encourage its message of fortitude, character and opportunity.
She is 84 now, yet hardly a day goes by when she is not doing just that, invoking or promoting the memory of her late husband, who in becoming the first black major leaguer in the 20th century became so much more.

U.S. Open
Straight off a flight back from attending opening night of the U.S. Open last night which was held at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City, we are exhausted but excited about the great "WILLIAMS WIN" news we have to share.
The girls were kind enough to provide tickets to the opening ceremony (Good lookin' out Isha!!) and we were happy to have the chance to make it to this years special presentation and watch Serena Williams beat out Angelique Kerber, and her sister number 12 seed and reigning Wimbledon champion Venus Williams also win her match by beating Hungarian Kira Nagy 6-2, 6-1.
The occasion was the 50th anniversary of Althea Gibson's becoming the first African-American woman to win the United States National Championships, the tournament that would become the Open. Gibson, who died in 2003, was inducted into the Open's Court of Champions during a special ceremony before the matches. The USA television network showed the Opening Night Celebration -- Themed “Breaking Barriers” -- which featured African American Female Pioneers Including Aretha Franklin, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun, Dr. Mae Jemison, Susan L. Taylor, Zina Garrison, Nikki Giovanni, Roberta Flack, Cynthia Cooper, Yolanda Adams, Sheila Crump Johnson, Phylicia Rashad, Dr. Debi Thomas and others. New York City Mayor Bloomberg, former NYC Mayor David N. Dinkins, Billie Jean King and Mrs. Jackie Robinson (Rachel) also paid tribute.
Meanwhile both the Newsday and NY Post are reporting on last night's star-studded Althea Gibson tribute. Janet Jackson was among them sporting gear from eleVEN, Venus Williams' new fashion line and seated with the Williams sisters family and friend throughout the matches. Other celebrities in the audience included Star Jones, Gladys Knight, Martha Stewart and Christie Brinkley.

We are going to be starting a daily segment to the blog entitled "SOO the day..."
"SOO the day..." stands for "Significant Other of the Day"

Actress Bridget Moynahan, 36, welcomed a baby boy yesterday in L.A. Father of the baby is New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, but it was unclear last night whether he was at the side of his estranged girlfriend. The couple split back in December. Since then, Brady has been seeing supermodel Gisele Bundchen, which come on had to be hard for poor Bridget.
We're assuming since Bridget sold her Manhattan apartment that she is planning on relocating to Los Angeles. Her one-bedroom in West Chelsea just sold for $820,000.

Spotted in L.A. Thursday, August 9th in these pictures, the momma-to-be looks ready to burst at any moment. Despite rumors that she was scheduled for a C-section in Los Angeles at the end of July, Moynahan delivered two weeks overdue, but is said to be doing well. Brady left training camp in Boston when he heard that the labor had started, but there is no word on whether to made it to Santa Monica in time for the blessed event.
